Product Recall: Mr. Coffee Single-Cup Brewers
When you go to brew your morning cup of Joe, you might get more than you bargained for. The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recently announced the recall of the popular Mr. Coffee Single Cup Brewing System, which is imported into the U.S. by Sunbeam Corporation.
The CPSC has received reports that a build-up of steam in the water reservoir can force the brewing chamber to open and expel hot coffee grounds and steaming hot water. This can pose a serious burn hazard to anyone standing nearby. There have been reports to the CPSC of approximately sixty burn injuries to people’s face, hands and upper torso from the brewing chamber opening, because of the build-up of steam pressure.
The coffeemaker in question is black with trim in silver, red or white. The water tank is on top of the unit towards the back of the machine. The recalled model numbers are located at the CPSC website.
Consumers are advised to stop using the coffeemakers immediately and contact the importer for instructions on how to obtain a replacement.
